TUSENÅRSTEPPET (2026-2030)

New Structures for Strongly Reduced Consumption  forms my contribution to The Millennium Tapestry (Tusenårsteppet), a national textile commission initiated by the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum and developed in collaboration with a network of museums, crafts institutions and textile practitioners across Norway. The commission marks the transition into Norway’s next thousand years and invites participating artists to reflect on cultural heritage, contemporary challenges and possible futures through textile art.

Developed in dialogue with energy director Kristin Guldbrandsen Frøysa and a wider network of researchers and collaborators, the project explores how art and textile practice can contribute to conversations about energy, resource use, quality of life and societal transformation.

The work is organised around six key concepts: Hope, Knowledge, Resources, Direction, Action and Structures. Through textile techniques, artistic research and public dialogue, the project investigates what kinds of cultural and social infrastructures may support a good life within planetary boundaries.
