Margrethe Kolstad Brekke (b. 1979) is a Norwegian textile artist living and working in Rjukan.

Through elaborative handcrafted textile art and long-term collaborative projects  she explores questions related to energy, resource use, cultural heritage, social imagination and societal transformation.

Brekke holds a Master's degree  from Bergen Academy of Art and Design.

Her work has been shown in Norway and internationally through exhibitions, residencies and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Since 2019 she has developed Rjukan Solarpunk Academy together with artists, researchers and local partners. Current projects include New Structures for Strongly Reduced Consumption, developed in dialogue with University of Bergen energydirector Kristin Guldbrandsen Frøysa, and the international initiative Trust in Humanity.

Her work is rooted in the belief that art can contribute to expanding our collective sense of what is possible before crisis narrows the horizon.
